Bare Snacks reimagines food packaging as an edible, coffee-infused film that challenges the environmental damage caused by plastic waste. By combining material innovation with consumer engagement, it transforms packaging from disposable waste into an interactive experience. The film, designed as a wrapper for granola bars, uses familiar edible materials like coffee and spices to encourage acceptance and curiosity. Material trials revealed the sensitivity of ingredient choice and processing conditions, highlighting the complexity behind developing a practical edible film. Beyond sustainability, the film offers functionality, maintaining shelf stability, heat resistance, and hygiene. The project also addresses the economic challenges of edible packaging, reframing cost as an investment in environmental health. Ultimately, this work pushes sustainable design beyond aesthetics to reshape perceptions of packaging’s role in consumption.
