BUSINESSES

If you are affiliated with a company or organization that could be interested in contributing to the Material Lab, we want to hear from you.

Sponsorship

The Material Lab is currently seeking sponsorship partners for the Material Lab Prize. If you or your firm could be interested in funding future generations of this design competition, your contributions will be tax-deductible, and help to support… (Coming Soon…)

Lectures

The Material Lab is happy to partner with your organization to host live, instructor-led, educational lectures revolving around your product, expertise, or material innovation. If you have prepared an AIA Continuing Education lunch and learn presentation, and would be interested in presenting to Pratt Institute School of Design students, faculty, and members of the community, let us know.

Material Donations

While we acquire new material through a variety of ways, gifts and donations play a significant role in our collection and our ability to support student research.

By contributing to the Material Lab, our donors divert waste from landfills, extend the lives of material samples from their libraries, and help enrich the educational experience of emerging design professionals.

Donations that are not integrated into our collection are delivered to Pratt’s GiveTake, a campus recycling initiative that provides students with free supplies for creative re-use.

Donation Guidelines

We’re happy to receive new samples and sample books (textile swatches, samples of glass, wood, ceramic, stone, composites, plastic, or metal) but we can also accept new/gently used art and design books and art supplies (paint, brushes, glue, tape, etc). All donations must be unbroken, clean, and in immediately reusable condition. We are unable to accept scrap fabric or building materials, or building materials with screws, nails, glue, or hardware attached.

Pick-Up

Depending on size, quantity, location, and schedules, some donations qualify for free pick-up. Wherever possible, we’d like to ensure that the trip is an enriching experience for the student employee(s) who facilitate your donation, and ask that a representative from the office take some time to tell us about sourcing and material research involved in some of the firm’s recent work.
