Bioplastic Textiles explores the potential of sargassum seaweed, an abundant and invasive material in the Caribbean, as a base for creating sustainable lampshades. The translucent nature of the bioplastic allows for soft, ambient light diffusion, while natural dyes and food waste—such as coffee grounds, orange peels, and eggshells—offer rich variation in color and texture. The project also opens the door to future experimentation with woven and knitted forms, expanding the material’s versatility and applications in lighting design. By transforming waste into a functional, aesthetic object, Bioplastic Textiles highlights the potential of biomaterials in circular, regenerative design.
