The Unfolded Lamp explores cycles of making through handcrafted steel and experimental paper. Cut, welded, and assembled entirely in Pratt Institute’s shops, the lamp is built from steel sheets and held together with a magnetic structure that supports the paper diffuser. The frame is designed to fit standard letter-sized paper, allowing users to replace or customize the diffuser using recycled or handmade materials. Alongside the lamp, a series of papers were made using waste collected from the same fabrication spaces, including steel dust, wood shavings, and dried leaves.
