Shapeshifter 1.0 is a multi-form furniture piece inspired by the construction logic and interlocking principles of Japanese Kumi-ki puzzles. Conceived as a single object capable of assuming multiple identities, the piece transforms between three distinct configurations: a compact cube, a functional table, and a chair. The project explores adaptability through a simple system of interconnected components, allowing the object to be reshaped through physical interaction rather than conventional mechanical hardware. Constructed from Homasote, foam, wood dowels, and elastic cord, the material system was carefully considered to balance structure, flexibility, and ease of movement. Shapeshifter 1.0 ultimately investigates how a single piece of furniture can move beyond a fixed function, adapting its form and use in response to changing spatial and functional needs.
