Wear Plastic offers a satirical commentary on the irony of wearing petroleum-derived fabrics in pursuit of health and wellness. The collection features numerous pieces borrowing graphic and packaging elements from consumer products. In its fully realized presentation, the collection features garments, packaging, digital media, and more in a mock retail installation. Ingredient boxes printed onto synthetic fabrics, plastic produce packaging as material, artificial foods made into activewear, just a few of the ways in which Corderman uses materiality to communicate. The use of materials rooted in food packaging and design draws attention to the critical consciousness of what we consume and its lack of extension to the items we wear.
