Opportunities for Renewal | Creative Rug Repair
This creative repair project investigates the ways in which rug-making techniques and processes developed matrilineally over generations in Turkmenistan can be both honored and redefined in the process of the repair of this family-owned rug. This exploration aims to fuse traditional methods with making strategies which reflect the narrative of the rug in the time that it has lived within my family, while also addressing practical/aesthetic considerations for longevity. This repair therefore synthesizes the past and present, marking the rug with a memory infused in the ongoing narrative of this site.
