Too Good To Waste

Yijin Wang, Interior Design

Broken or imperfect conditions are opportunities for renewal if we can change our attitudes. This project for the design of a facility for the repair of donated goods aims to inspire and support a culture that values innovative strategies for renewal. Informed by research into material health, sustainable systems, the culture of repair, and the unique context of the community, the proposal identifies objects or conditions in our surroundings that are damaged, unusable, or thought to be imperfect, to develop unique strategies to reuse and reanimate materials and objects back into our designed environment with new values. The proposal also considers the important role of interaction among the people in the community to further support the idea about renewal and social sustainability.
